BUTUAN CITY – Over 4.2 million fingerlings of various fish species, including tilapia, milkfish, carp, and hito, have been distributed by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in the Caraga Region (BFAR-13) to 47 fisherfolk organizations across the region.

Data provided by BFAR-13 to the Philippine News Agency on Thursday indicated that these fingerlings were disbursed to the groups between January and May of this year.

“The distributions were conducted under the Fisheries Development Program of BFAR, specifically through its Aquaculture Fisheries sub-program,” BFAR-13 stated.

According to the agency, some 574 fisherfolk members from the beneficiary associations have directly benefited from this fingerling dispersal initiative. Of the total number of fingerlings distributed, 2.560 million were tilapia, 546,000 were milkfish, and 1.206 million comprised carp and hito.

“These fingerlings were produced locally by three technology stations managed by the agency,” BFAR-13 added.

These stations include the Kitcharao Technology Outreach Station in Agusan del Norte, the Masao Technology Outreach Station in Butuan City, and the Placer Technology Outreach Station in Surigao del Norte. (PNA)
