Tago Municipal Police Station, Tago, Surigao del Sur —————- On or about 7:30 AM on June 1, 2025, the Tago Municipal Police Station received a call from a concerned citizen reporting a stabbing incident that occurred in Barangay Badong, Tago, Surigao del Sur.

The victim was identified as Joebart Sugian Coquilla, 47 years old (DOB: July 11, 1977), a male bao-bao (motorcycle taxi) driver and resident of Purok Panaghiusa, Barangay Bag-ong Lungsod, Tandag City, Surigao del Sur. The suspect was identified as alias “Jojo” of legal age, male, married, and a resident of Purok Kapitasan, Barangay Badong, Tago, Surigao del Sur.

Upon confirmation of the incident, personnel from this station, led by Police Master Sergeant Zyrell A. Española, immediately proceeded to the scene to conduct an investigation. Initial findings revealed that the victim and the suspect were engaged in a heated argument which escalated into a physical altercation. During the confrontation, the suspect reportedly grabbed a bladed weapon (sundangay) and stabbed the victim multiple times.

The victim sustained fatal stab wounds on various parts of his body, leading to his death at the scene. Preliminary investigation also suggests that both individuals were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident, which occurred during the Barangay’s Fiesta celebration.

A hot-pursuit operation was promptly initiated, resulting in the successful arrest of the suspect at his residence. The murder weapon — a sharp knife (sundangay) — was recovered from the suspect’s home and taken into custody as evidence.

The suspect was properly apprised of his constitutional rights pursuant to the Miranda Warning and the Anti-Torture Act, and is currently detained at the Tago Municipal Police Station. The seized bladed weapon is also secured for proper documentation and disposition.

This station remains committed to maintaining peace and order and ensuring that justice is served promptly and lawfully.
