MANILA – National University Nazareth School (NUNS) and Bacolod Tay Tung downed separate rivals Friday to arrange a title showdown in the 2025 Shakey’s Girls Volleyball Invitational League (SGVIL) Rising Stars Cup Division 1.
NUNS downed Emilio Aguinaldo College, 25-16, 25-15, 25-11, while Bacolod Tay Tung pulled off a 25-20, 25-15, 25-18 victory over De La Salle-Lipa in their semifinal matches at the La Salle Green Hills Gym.
The Lady Bulldogs and the Thunderbolts will clash for the title on Saturday, their second straight final duel after last month’s Palarong Pambansa in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte where NUNS triumphed.
UAAP Season 87 MVP Samantha Cantada scored a game-high 20 points as NUNS extended its winning run to six and ending EAC’s five-game streak.
Harlyn Serneche contributed 11 points, while Denesse Daylisan and Rihanna Navarro added 10 and five points, respectively.
Angel Perez paced EAC with 13 points off seven kills, five aces and a block.
Bacolod Tay Tung banked on Rhose Almendralejo, who scored 18 points. Alexa Bertolano had 10 points followed by Donna Mae de Leon with eight points.
Althea Sumague scored 11 points for De La Salle-Lipa, which will face EAC in the bronze medal match.
Meanwhile, Everest International Academy triumphed over Immaculate Conception Academy, 31-29, 25-8, 25-13, to reach the Division 2 final.
Julia Rodriguez finished with 14 points off 12 attacks and two aces for the Everest International Academy, which face Domuschola International School (DIS), a 25-23, 25-13, 25-20 winner over St. Paul College-Pasig.
As Division 2 finalists, the Huskies and Badgers earned their seats in Division 1 next year.
In the Division 2 classification round, Assumption Antipolo turned back Miriam College, 11-25, 25-23, 27-25, 25-14, while De La Salle-Zobel B prevailed over La Salle Green Hills, 11-25, 25-14, 25-17, 28-26.
The Amazons and the Lady Junior Archers will dispute fifth place. (PNA)
